Watt reportedly found out that Myles Garrett would be named Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday and not himself before the 2024 NFL Honors. Watt tweeted out the cryptic phrase, "Nothing I'm not used to," just about an hour ahead of the announcement.

Watt led the NFL in sacks with 19, forced fumbles with 6, and tackles for loss with 21 this season. He also had 55 quarterback hits and 3 interceptions. Garrett, on the other hand, had 16 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 18 tackles for loss. He also had 43 quarterback hits and 2 interceptions.

Many Steelers fans took to social media to voice their displeasure with the decision, arguing that Watt was the more deserving player. Some even went so far as to say that the NFL is biased against the Steelers.
